Feria de Santa Lucia in Zumárraga
The celebration of Santa Lucía is a day of livestock, eating, drinking and stalls in the town of Zumárraga and Urretxu. The fayre stretches across the river and everyone fills the streets, peering at all the homemade edible substances that are laid out for people to enjoy. What I enjoyed the most was the Talo (traditional Basque corn tortilla) served with Txistorra (a spicy sausage) and the world famous Idiazabal goat’s cheese all served in a tasty wrap. The fayre also included a tent where you could rent wine glasses and pay €1 – €2 for a refill from different vendors. Along with the spirit or revelry, it was a lovely trip out.
